Vào ngày 5.5. 2023, chàng ca sĩ người Anh Ed Sheeran đã chính thức phát hành album phòng thu thứ 5 của mình mang tên "Subtract". Cùng với 14 bài hát nằm trong bản standard, anh chàng còn ngay lập tức tung thêm bản deluxe của album với 4 bài hát nữa. Và điều đặc biệt mà anh chàng đã làm với chiếc album này là anh chàng đã cho quay toàn bộ MV cho tất cả bài hát trong bản standard. Sycamore là track thứ 12 trong album này. Sycamore, với ý nghĩa là cây sung dâu, anh chàng Ed đã mượn loài cây này để nói về chuyện tình cảm đôi lứa, khi vào mùa xuân, tức là khi tình yêu nở rộ nhất thì nó sẽ là một cái cây đẹp, nhưng vào mùa đông, khi cây trơ trọi lá thì nó chỉ còn là một chiếc cây khẳng khiu, đứng một mình trơ trọi giữa cánh đồng không, cũng giống như tình cảm của hai con người khi chia xa vậy.
