Nhằm để giới thiệu một phiên bản mới của chính mình, "Hold the Girl" là đĩa đơn thứ ba và cũng là ca khúc chủ đề trong album dài thứ hai phòng thu thứ hai cùng tên của Rina Sawayama. Được viết sau một buổi trị liệu, bài hát đi sâu vào sự tự tin của Rina, kể câu chuyện về việc cô ấy trở thành một phiên bản tốt hơn của chính mình. Ca khúc được sản xuất bởi Barney Lister - người đã tạo ra nhịp điệu đáng chú ý cho bài hát, chuyển đổi qua lại từ một ca khúc pop ballad êm dịu sang beat nhạc dance pop kết hợp pop R&B và indie pop.
