Ca khúc này được sáng tác bởi Colin Brittain, Elijah Noll và Taylor Upsahl, và được sản xuất bởi Brittain. Đồng thời nó cũng lấy sample từ bài đồng dao cổ điển của Pháp "Frère Jacques".

Đây là một bản nhạc thuộc thể loại electropop kết hợp cùng với alternative rock đầy ấn tượng. JoJo chia sẻ với Melodic Magazine về "Bulletproof" như sau: "Đây là bài hát mang tính cá nhân nhất của tôi từ trước đến nay vì nó nói về hành trình tôi đã trải qua, những thử thách tôi đã đối mặt và cách tôi vượt qua chúng để trở nên mạnh mẽ hơn".
