Bài hát ra mắt trực tiếp trước khi được phát hành chính thức dưới dạng đĩa đơn vào ngày 3 tháng 5 năm 2019, MV chính thức công chiếu vào ngày 12 tháng 5 năm 2019 sau đó có mặt trong album phòng thu đầu tay "Bad Idea" của cô nàng phát hành vào ngày 25 tháng 10 năm 2019. "I Like (the idea of) You" là một bài hát indie pop vui tai kể về một người bị nửa kia hấp dẫn, dù biết rằng mối quan hệ này khó có thể diễn ra suôn sẻ. Bài hát cũng thể hiện mong muốn của nhân vật chính để có được niềm tin vào tình cảm của họ.
