Phát hành chính thức vào ngày 20 tháng 1 năm 2024 cùng một MV chính thức, "Whatever" là bản nhạc mang thể loại dance pop và EDM, đánh dấu sự hợp tác giữa nam DJ Kygo và nữ ca sĩ Ava Max . Ca khúc chứa phần nội suy (interpolation) từ bản hit "Whenever Wherever" của nữ nghệ sĩ Shakira (phát hành tháng 8 năm 2001).

Ca khúc nói về việc bước tiếp từ mối quan hệ trong quá khứ và không để cảm xúc của bản thân bị ảnh hưởng bởi điều đó. Lời trong bài hát truyền tải cảm giác độc lập, cũng như từ chối việc chìm đắm trong nỗi đau do cuộc chia tay ấy gây ra. "Whatever" đưa ra một thông điệp thẳng thắn về việc bước tiếp, không cho phép bản thân bị tổn thương bởi nỗi đau, cũng như trân trọng sức mạnh và sự độc lập cá nhân.
