"Seventeen" là ca khúc mở đầu trong EP đầu tay"Four Pink Walls" và sau này là album phòng thu đầu tiên của Alessia Cara mang tên "Know-It-All", được ra mắt chính thức vào ngày 26 tháng 8 năm 2015. MV chính thức với bối cảnh đơn giản được ra mắt sau đó vào ngày 16 tháng 12 năm 2016. Ca khúc chứa phần nội suy từ bài hát "My Girl" của ban nhạc The Temptation ra mắt vào năm 1964.

Bài hát là sự đối lập với hình ảnh thời trẻ của cô - phớt lờ lời khuyên của bố mẹ và ước bản thân có thể trở nên trưởng thành hơn. Bây giờ, ở tuổi 19, cô ước mình có thể quay lại hai năm trước và làm theo những lời khuyên mà bố mẹ mình đã từng nói. "Seventeen" với chất pop R&B sôi nổi và tràn đầy năng lượng, nói lên bản chất phù du của thời gian cùng mong muốn níu giữ sự ngây thơ vad giản dị của tuổi trẻ.
