Một số quy tắc cơ bản: - Danh từ và tính từ thường có trọng âm ở ÂM TIẾT ĐẦU TIÊN - Danh từ ghép thường có trọng âm ở ÂM TIẾT ĐẦU TIÊN - Động từ thường có trọng âm ở ÂM TIẾT THỨ HAI - Động từ ghép trọng âm rơi vào ÂM TIẾT THỨ HAI - Đa số các tiền tố không ảnh hưởng đến trọng âm: Un-, in-, im-, ir-, dis-, re-, pre-, post-, non-, over- - Đa số các hậu tố không ảnh hưởng đến trọng âm: -ful, -less, -able, -al, -ous, -ly, -er/or, -ing, -ise/ize 2. Các đuôi trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết trước nó: -tion, -sion, -ic/ical, -ity, -ial, -ual, -itive, -logy, -graphy, -etry, -eous, -ious, -ety, -ance, -ience, -ient, -iency, -ian, -ium, -nomy, -meter, -ury, -ory, -ute VD: Con'dition, tech'nician, 'memory.. 3.
